City reminds residents of new water and sewer leak protection that will appear on water bills January 1st

Starting January 1st, residents who receive a Clarion water bill will start to see an additional charge on their bill. This charge is for water and sewer leak coverage through a company called ServLine. Most residents will see a charge of $3.10 added to their monthly bill for the residential rate, with higher rates for commercial properties.  If you receive a water bill, you are automatically enrolled in this program. People may choose to decline this coverage, but they must call 515-532-7600 or they will be billed.

Literature that the city mailed out in the last few weeks in both English and Spanish explains that the basic coverage that people are automatically enrolled in provides “water and sewer loss protection from excess water charges resulting from eligible plumbing leaks, up to $2,500” with no deductible. Residents and commercial property owners may also choose to enroll in extra coverage for water and sewer line protection.
