City awards bids for section 2 and 3 of well project

In addition to approving the employment agreement with the new city administrator, the Clarion City Council completed other important business at the November 5th meeting, including various actions for the water supply enhancement project.

First they set a date for a public hearing for the next meeting, November 19, to enter into a Water Revenue Loan and Disbursement Agreement borrowing up to $1,000,000 for the project. The loan will be for the funding and design loan that would partially cover planning and designing fees of the well that is being constructed. ISG engineer Kelly Evans explained that a new well is much needed in Clarion as the old well is over 100 years old. (A longer story about the well will be included in next week’s paper.)

The council also awarded contracts for section 2 and 3 of the project. They awarded the section 2 base bid to Thompson Electric Company, Sioux City and section 3 to GM Contracting Inc. of Lake Crystal, Minnesota. Both of these contractors are approved by CDBG for work, as much of the project will be covered by a CDBG grant.
