Chipmans retiring from Servicemaster

For 35 years, Tim Chipman has been all around Wright and Franklin counties, helping clean people’s homes as the operator of the local Servicemaster franchise. Though he loved getting to know the community that way, he decided he was ready to retire from owning a business. Now you can see him at Wright County Motors Pritchard Family Auto, doing what he was doing when he first arrived in Clarion.

“I came to Clarion in 1978 to sell cars for Hermie Nelson,” he said. Though Nelson sold the business a few short years after, Chipman’s relationship with his daughter lasted longer; Tim and Becky were married, and she started working with him when he bought his Servicemaster franchise in 1981.

When he started, he concocted crazy ad campaigns in the Belmond Reminder and aired ads on KRIT. For a businessman, Chipman said the ability to put yourself out there is essential. “If you’re already a salesperson, if you have that type of background, it really helps,” he said. “If you’re not a salesman, it’s difficult.”
