C-G-D superintendent announces resignation, board talks Kids Korner

The October meeting of the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Board of Education on Monday night was a busy, well-attended affair. The district boardroom was at capacity with dozens of people occupying chairs, standing against the wall, sitting on the floor and crowding in the doorway. Most of these people came to the meeting to talk about Kids Korner Daycare.

After last month’s meeting, the board sent a letter to Kids Korner saying they would have to vacate their space in the elementary school building by May 1, 2020. The school has said they need the space for more classrooms as elementary class sizes are growing and room has run out in that building. After receiving the notice, Kids Korner’s board researched the possibility of moving into existing buildings or constructing a new one. Since both options look like they would take some time, they asked the board to extend the deadline to vacate until June of 2020. The board decided to move the date to May 1 of 2021 for now as both groups work towards solutions. (This topic will be covered more extensively in a full-length story in next week’s Monitor.)

In another piece of important news, C-G-D Superintendent Dr. Bob Olson announced his impending retirement.
