C-G-D Discusses Athletic Mergers

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows School Board discussed sharing athletic programs with their neighbors during their regular board meeting on July 13.

With the CAL School District suffering a lack of students to field a full team, the school has been looking for alternative ways to support their student athletes. During their own meeting on July 13, the CAL school board agreed to cancel their 2015 football season and enter into an agreement with C-G-D to absorb their program. While other options for CAL were considered, such as Hampton-Dumont and West Fork, only C-G-D's district was the right size to absorb CAL's students without moving the up a class.

The finer details of the agreement need to be ironed out, but CAL has approved the merger on their end.

Meanwhile, the C-G-D school board has also been in discussions with the Belmond-Klemme Community School District to share their wrestling program for the 2016 school year.
