C-G-D Cowgirls just edge Wildcats 51-47

Last Tuesday in a home game, the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows varsity girls basketball team faced the Humboldt Wildcats which is the same team they’ll be playing in less than two weeks during the opening round of 3A regionals. The Cowgirls might be able to go into that game with some confidence after edging out the Wildcats 51-47.

“This was a big win for us,” stated head coach Kevin Kakacek. “We were good on defense in the first half, with our hands up and ready to move. We also jumped out to a nice lead early, hitting big shots to keep us going. We limited their second chances on offense, as compared to the previous game at their place.”

Maddie Disney poured in 15 points to lead the red and black, with Kenzie Alberts netting nine points and both Sydney TerHark and Hannah Kapka eight points each. TerHark had two buckets from long range as part of her total. Ashley Keller scored four points, Shelby Engh a three-pointer and both Kennedy Goodell and Hannah TerHark two points each. Alberts was a force on the boards in grabbing 12 rebounds, eight of those on defense. Disney, Sydney TerHark and Kapka all got their hands on six caroms each, while Engh had two and Keller one.
