Bulldogs spoil Cowboy homecoming, win 65-22

Throughout a good chunk of the first half last Friday night in Clarion, the game between Algona and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows had the makings of a shootout and the Cowboys matched the district leaders point for point. However, three consecutive Bulldog scores before halftime established them 35-14 on the scoreboard. The visitors went on from there to spoil the homecoming game by a 65-22 final.

After spotting a Bulldog touchdown, the Cowboys drove to the Bulldog one with Jaace Weidemann taking it in on a keeper. Nate Rapp’s PAT was no good. After the visitors went up 14-6, the Cowboys answered back as Weidemann completed a 43-yard touchdown toss to Sam Johnson. Trenton Jergenson scored the conversion, making it 14-all. However, the defensive dam then burst for the Cowboys as Algona scored on two long runs and a pass for the halftime advantage. The Cowboys would post one more early in the fourth period, but just couldn’t recover from the Bulldog onslaught.
