Basketball players Harrington, Darland on AAU Select Team

Cowboy varsity basketball players Avery Harrington (sophomore) and Rhett Darland (junior) are both a part of the Iowa Cornsharks Select Team for AAU basketball this summer, and the pair have already played in four tournaments with a few more in June and a full schedule every weekend in July. While Harrington is in just his first year with the program, Darland is a veteran as he returns for his fifth year. Both of them agree that the traveling to the tournaments is well worth it in sharpening their skills and preparing for their upcoming high school season.

“I feel I’m playing with more confidence now,” said Harrington, who got involved through his teammate Rhett. “Playing with better players makes you better,” added Darland. “It takes my skills to a higher level. Strength and speed are two things that are a necessity, and these guys in AAU are faster and stronger.”

In looking back on this past season with the Cowboys, which brought the team a .500 final record and a postseason run all the way to the district title game, and also ahead to next year both of them are focused on getting better and going further.
