Art Club popular with Middle School students

The end of the school year means that many activities at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows are getting wrapped up as well. Recently, students said goodbye (for the summer) to an extracurricular middle school group that’s grown quite popular: art club.

Kaira Downing, art teacher for C-G-D elementary and middle schools, leads the after-school club, which got its start in response to student requests.

“After my second year here, [Principal] Haberman said he had a bunch of students who were interested in more art,” Downing said.

Students work on personal projects with clay, papier-mâché, drawing, and painting projects. Some of the students are interested in pursuing art as a career. Others are there just for the creative outlet.

“There were a few that surprised me that were in here, because I didn’t know they loved art so much,” Downing said.
