4-H Citizenship project benefits high school wrestling program

Kelsie Brodersen will be in the 11th grade at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School this fall.  As the wrestling manager for the past two years, Kelsie and her mom, Marcie, took note of how old the team’s awards podium was.  As they traveled from town-to-town, they began to take note of what they liked - and so a 4-H project idea was born.
“The Podium that the school had has been used for decades,” said Marcie.  “It had only three places on it.”
Like many 4-H moms, Marcie planted the seed in her daughter’s head.  Kelsie accepted the challenge because not only did she agree the school needed a new podium, but she thought now would be the perfect time since Dows joined the school district.
They began by measuring the current podium, and then did some online research for standard sizes as well as ideas.
Kelsie is proud that she built something that would serve dual purposes of serving her school and creating something great for the fair, but also that she was also able to get all the supplies she needed to complete the project right in Clarion - the wood, paint,  lettering, and numbers.
Although the project has not yet been shown at the fair, it has been put to use.  They christened it during the Glen Brand Tournament held in Clarion earlier this year.
“We had to really work hard to get it done on time,” Marcie added, proud of her daughter’s accomplishment.
Be sure to look for it on display in the 4-H Exhibit Building during the Fair, July 9 - July 12.
