32nd annual Chilifest

On March 13, locals gathered at Mosaic in Clarion once again for Chilifest, the 32nd annual chili lunch-and-dinner fundraiser. The food, fun, and raffle is something Clarion area residents look forward to every year. It’s also an opportunity to show support for Mosaic’s cause: helping those with intellectual disabilities live full, meaningful lives.

Many don’t know the full impact the chili fundraiser has for the people Mosaic helps. Sarah Holmes, local community relations manager, said funds raised through the meal tickets and raffle go toward “meaningful days” for individuals, which might mean visiting family, going to a concert by a favorite artist, or even having a birthday party. “Hopes and dreams—those are the things that federal funding will not cover,” she said. The money also goes specifically to help local people. “Everything raised in Wright County stays in Wright County,” she said.

And though Chilifest is a fundraiser, Mosaic sees the event as a means of building relationships in the community. “We have the regulars that come and help out each year, and new people who want to help out,” said Nikki McMurray, local direct support coordinator. “It’s fantastic to get that kind of support from people,” added Brent Aberg, executive director of Mosaic in Forest City.

Mosaic will hold their Partners in Possibilities fundraising event on April 26. For more information, contact Mosaic at 515-532-3221.
