Festival in the Park is June 14

May 29, 2008 - Gazebo Park in Clarion will once again be the setting for the annual Festival in the Park on Saturday, June 14. Clarion's annual celebration has been held on the second Saturday in June for nearly 30 years.

This year, falling on Flag Day, provides an opportunity to showcase patriotism and the parade and entertainment theme will be "It's a Grand Old Flag".

Activities will kick off at 6 a.m. with the Firemen's Annual Pancake Breakfast. They will serve until 10 a.m.

The 5K run will begin at 7:15 a.m. at the Depot. Entry forms are available on-line.

The annual parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in front of the elementary school. It will travel west to 3rd Street N.E., then north to 5th Avenue N.E. Turning west, they will advance to 2nd Street N.W. (County K) and then turn south to go by Gazebo Park. Parade chairperson Carolyn Adams reports that there are over already 100 entries.

Following the parade, the food booths will open on First Street N.W., between the banks and the park. Nine nonprofit organizations are signed up to have food booths. "We have everything available from pizza to buffalo burgers, pork loin, beef burgers, hot dogs, barbecued beef and pork sandwiches," said Jill Harrington, Festival committee cochairperson.

Entertainment starts on stage in the park at noon. The Kids Korner kids will open the program followed by a special patriotic demonstration. Other performers will be the Choralaires, the United Methodist Praise Team and Dennis Nash and Vicky Boyington.

Other special activities include children's activities sponsored by Connections, a craft fair in the park and the Farmers' Market and also a flea market at the Courthouse.

Little Willies will have a beer garden Saturday night in the city parking lot north of his establishment.
